In the blink of an eye we are already done with week 3 of VBS. We passed the summer solstice, the daylight is getting shorter and shorter. Today we had 18 hours of daylight not including the long period of dusk and dawn. Even though the daylight is long the weeks go by fast.
I'd like to thank the Igiugig council for allowing us to come teach VBS. We are grateful for them allowing us to come in. They let us use the Library. Thank you for your approval and use of a room.
The librarian let us come in during her hours. Not only that she provided some bonus snacks for us including fry bread and dried fish. They both make my taste buds dance like they were Michael Jackson himself. She also had some free children's books! I definitely took her up on that. It's the early childhood educator in me that can't say no to free books. Igiugig is blessed with a wonderful librarian. Thank you for your fun and food.
The Yupik teachers switched their schedules around our VBS. Thank you for doing that. The kids are learning the language and even taught me how to say, "I have to poop." They are learning. Thank you for your flexibility.
Our host home for the week. We are grateful to have a host home this last week. The hosts are in another village fishing but they still allow us to stay at their home. We are grateful for beds, running water, electricity, fridge, grill, and even a tv. It's always a delight to be in their home. Thank you for your generosity and hospitality.
The kids this week! We are thankful to have 17 kids come throughout the week. From 2 years old to around 14. Getting to see them open up to us throughout the week and learn so quickly puts a smile on my face. They were a fun bunch. Thank you for coming to VBS.
Our pilot Jeremy who came and got us once the the winds got slowed down. He landed at 9:40 p.m. and still had plenty of daylight to fly us back to Naknek. He flew over the Naknek/King Salmon landfill were we were able to see some bears from the air. Thank you for your safe flights.
Our other half of the team Carl and Emily. They finished their time in Alaska this week. They are in Anchorage already as I type this. Carl you are a natural servant leader. A learner, a question asker, and creative. Emily you a natural care giver, dedicated and loyal. A great sense of humor, honest, and a narrator. Emily and Carl thank you for being you and for eternally investing into rural Alaska.
To our prayer warriors! Thank you! I wish I could express with precession just how much battles are won through your prayers. God has heard them. In the villages we have felt the protection that your prayers have provided. Thank you for your persistence in prayer.
This next week we will doing VBS in Naknek. Lacey, a missionary, up here is joining the team to do VBS with Katy and I. We are thankful we don't have to teach just the two of us!
In the end of it all, it takes many people in many places to be able to share the Good News during VBS. We are thankful for each and every one of you. If there is any way we can pray for you let us know! We like to pray too! Thanks for reading our updates!
