The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
Trips to the beach to go swimming with the kids. Watching the sunset over Alaska’s biggest lake. Reenacting Zach and Katy’s wedding. Praying for sunshine for all this to happen was on the list of things to do this last week. Of course VBS too! Life doesn’t go as planned and that is certainly true for this week.
We started off the week with having Katy still holding onto her cold that started last week. We still headed to Igiugig and Katy came with but didn’t come to VBS as a chance to finally get over her cold. Zach, Jessica and myself held VBS that day and had 12 kids come that day! It’s always fun to see how many come and how consistently they show up year after year.
Tuesday brought us all four going to do VBS but now it was Jessica’s turn to start to feel ill. Being in the school’s library it was a great time for the kids to have child directed game time. It gave us as leaders a chance to conserve our energy. Katy still had a running nose, Jessica wasn’t doing great, Zach had a sore and I had coffee so I was good to go for days! I didn’t bounce off the wall this time but that’s a story for a different day.
We decided to take Wednesday off in hopes that those that were sick would get the time to recover and those that hadn’t would be able to be proactive before things got worse. It was this day that Jessica spent mostly in bed. Katy spent mostly blowing her nose. Zach spent trying to make his sore throat better. I spent the day making sure they were drinking water and had food to eat. I also made sure that I had taken my vitamins because I realize my immune system is not like Chuck Norris and can get knocked down at any time.
Thursday brought upon the downfall of Zach. It was his day to stay in bed all day. Jessica was little bit more lively although a deep theological discussion was not on her list to do for the day. That left Katy who had a little of a runny nose not quite the waterfall it was the day before and myself to do VBS. Like the rockstars we are we headed out and did a very low key VBS for the kids that day. The puppets didn’t even an appearance. The kids got to have a good time hanging out and listening to lots of VBS songs.
Later that night I finally got a sore throat bum da dum!
Waking up discovered that the soreness was now just a little tickle but energy level was low. Zach and Jessica still not able to do VBS and Katy still blowing her nose we decided to cancel VBS on Friday too. In God’s provision we are in a house with tv this week that makes the days go by quick and long at the same time. We have a car that we can drive to the beach to get some fresh air without spreading the sickness. We packed 2lbs of bacon and 4.5 of beef so we are good on food!
Even though we all long to be with the kids this week. To have those memories and fun. To show and point them to Jesus we are trusting that the little bit we had with them this week is what God can use more than we can expect and imagine. We are on the mend. Jessica’s energy is coming back. Zach got out bed today! Katy has cut back on the tissues. I’m still having a scratchy throat but it hasn’t gotten worse! It’s actually gone away by the time I’ve gone through and proofread. Zach has more energy back too!
We’re hoping to all be better after the weekend. First we have to get to Naknek. We stayed in Igiugig Friday night due to weather which gives me time to write the blog because I can’t pack the craft tote for next week. I just can’t sit still for too long! (We have made it back now)
Prayers for good health would be amazing! Prayers that God uses the little time in big ways. As always let us know how we can praying for you!
Sorry no pictures for the blog this week. We didn’t get too many this week.
