Well hello and welcome back! (That means you too FLAPS Director!)
Hope you all had a good winter. With it being Memorial Day that the Blog is also up and running thanks to the men and women who have sacrificed to me to have this freedom.
This embarks my 7th year of teaching Vacation Bible School, VBS in remote Alaskan villages. It's crazy to think back on the kids and how young they were when I started, some of which weren't even born. Let me introduce the team to you! We have Zach and Katy Kusper. Sound familiar? Zach is doing his 2nd summer up here and Katy is doing her 3rd. We are blessed to have this crazy (in a good way) couple back up here again. Our newbie to the team is Jennifer Albright from Minnesota. She's jumped in wonderfully and patiently as she listens to all the stories we have. Jennifer makes a great addition to the team. If you don't know me because you are new to the blog thanks for reading! I'm Heather. 2016 I came up to teach VBS and eventually moved up here full time in 2020.
On Tuesday I headed to Port Alsworth to go North Ministry Training. The flight was bumpy and it was early in the morning. Let's just say I picked the wrong the day to decide to be a breakfast eater. Jeremy, the pilot, was gracious to give me a ziplock bag before the incident occurred. Zach and Katy would soon join later that day at the camp. It was great to reunited. We learned lots throughout the next two days and met some awesome people along the way. There was even this one youth that beat Zach at tetherball.
On Thursday our other pilot Joshua picked us up from Port Alsworth. It was a fun plane ride as Katy and I sat in the back. We were able to watch an episode of Mister Rogers and practice all of our VBS songs to the pilots dismay and confusion as to what was going on. We ended up Thursday night talking about a boo-ya stick and all the jokes that came with it.
Friday came and we got to packing one of our totes. We got our puppet skits picked out too. Zach was the most productive and got his lesson planning done too. Katy and I didn't. After supper we had game night with some youth in the area. Those times are always filled with fun and laughter. I won the most games of spoons!
Saturday we meal planned and packed all our nonperishable items. We picked up Jennifer in the evening and our team was finally complete! Coming back to the radio station, a part of the ministry in Naknek, we had a wonderful supper made by the local missionary Lacey. She's a good cook too!
Sunday we went to Sunday school, church, potluck and a concert by Dennis Agajanian. After the concert we were able to meal prep as we won't have a kitchen this week. Zach was able to go to Ekwok to plug in the mini fridge ready for us. I'm super excited to eat this week! We were to have some team of prayer and devotion. A run through of songs puts us at the end of the week!
We are flying to Ekwok tomorrow for our first week of VBS. We sort of know what we're doing. We absolutely know that we are following God. It's a awesome place to be.
Plane Ride Fun!
All of our VBS for the next 7 weeks and hopefully 200 kids! Thanks to those who bought them!
Dennis Concert after the potluck!
Heather, Jennifer, Katy and Zach
I hope you guys have fun in Ekwok!! I wish I can be there with you guys but have fun!!
